What is Goodreads?

Goodreads is a place many readers use to keep track of the books they love. It works a little like a set of digital bookshelves. You add books you want to read so you can grab them later, keep a list of what you have finished, or build themed shelves for the stories that matter to you most.

Goodreads also has many community features that readers enjoy. 

There are curated lists built by users, seasonal reading challenges, and voting for favourite books in different genres every year. These additional features help readers discover new stories and connect with others who love the same kinds of books. It gives every book a chance to find its way to the right reader, whether it is a new release or a quiet favourite.

How does Goodreads help Indie Authors?

One of the most exciting parts of being an indie author is seeing our books appear on people's shelves. Goodreads gathers books from many different sources, so titles often show up there even before the author has seen them. 

When a reader adds a book to one of their shelves, it means something. Indie authors rely on readers choosing their stories, and each shelf adds to the reach of the book that is priceless.

Marketing books

Goodreads also offers a unique form of evergreen marketing for indie authors. Once a book is listed there, readers can find it long after the original release date through shelves, lists, and recommendations. 

Every time someone adds a title to their personal shelves, it quietly appears in front of other readers who follow them or browse similar books. It is a slow, steady way for stories to keep reaching new people without ads or constant posting, which makes it especially helpful for authors who prefer a quieter presence online.

Goodreads also gives readers an easy way to follow their favourite authors (indie, traditional published) famous or not. When you follow an author, you will see new releases appear on your home page, which is helpful if you enjoy staying up to date on upcoming titles.

Goodreads has the option for authors to allow questions inside their profile. This is a great way to connect with readers of your books.

Sharing your blog  from other platforms

Another great feature is that you can add your blog into your profile, so people who might not be on other social media platforms can have access to all your curated content.

Some of the Little Goodbyes Press authors now have claimed their profiles on Goodreads, and all current books are gathered neatly under each name. This includes picture books, storybooks, and our pocket-sized trivia series.
