Surprise! The eBook Is Already Live

“There is no real ending. It’s just the place where you stop the story.” — Frank Herbert

I didn’t plan to release Shelved as an eBook quite this early. In fact, I wasn’t even sure I would that is not until I saw how many authors were asking for a way to access the information quickly, right from their devices and after sharing the information with them through emails.

So here we are: Shelved is officially available as an eBook.

You can now read it on your phone, tablet, Kindle, or wherever you do your late-night Googling about PLR registration and library distribution. No printing, no waiting. Just everything you need to get your self-published book into Canadian libraries starting today. Buy it now!

Book cover for Shelved by Jacqueline Cooper and Lauren Hoste. The title is in large white block letters over a photo of a library aisle lined with bookshelves. The subtitle reads: How to Get Your Self-Published Book into Canadian Libraries, Register for PLR, and Start Earning Passive Income as an Author or Illustrator. A faint red maple leaf is visible in the distance. Author names appear in bold white text at the bottom. Published by Little Goodbyes Press

Why there are two versions of the eBook

The original version of Shelved includes a full list of clickable links for every site, program, and tool I mention in the book, organized by chapter, so you can easily tap and explore. But when I submitted that version, it was flagged by Apple Books and Amazon due to the number of external links.

Rather than removing them (they're useful!), I created a second version of the eBook with the links removed. Both versions have their own ISBNs, and both are now available depending on which platforms accept what. The core content is exactly the same only the presence of links differs.

I then created a section on my website that I am going keep updated with links from the book and any other ones I come across that would be complementary (2nd edition anyone someone has already mentioned? Ha!)

Here's What Actually Happened After I Hit Submit

Amazon KDP didn't like the linked version, so removed and replaced it with the second version without links and a few hours later sent me and email when the Amazon listing went live.

For Shelved, I didn't choose Kindle Select as my book is not exclusive to Amazon.

Since this is my first book published on their platform, that meant that I could also create an Author Central account with them and did that as well. I had to search for the book, claim my name (because there are two of us listed) and now that shows up under my author profile in Books. Pretty easy.

Draft2Digital sent an email as the

book was accepted and went live on each retailer (Apple, Kobo, B&N, etc.) and they can arrive at different times, depending on the platform.

They also send you an email when something needs to be "corrected" in my case there was a competitor link inside the first book and Apple Books didn't like that. So I removed Apple Books from that listing and so they now have the second version.

They also created a universal book link for me from their Books2Read site - I love this! I can add book other links to it myself, like Amazon or Google Books (since those books were not uploaded through D2D), as well and share just the one link so people can pick where they want to buy the book. I customized it to match the book title.

Why I’m selling direct

Selling Shelved directly through my website is one of the most accessible forms of passive income I’ve found as an indie author. There’s no algorithm to chase, no complicated ads to run, and no pressure to constantly “launch” the book over and over. It’s quiet, intentional marketing and it works. Between direct sales, library outreach, and PLR registration, this approach keeps the book working in the background, even when I’m focused on creating the next one.

No one emails you to say “congrats, you did it!”

That part? That’s up to you.
Which is why blogging about it, sharing to your social media gets the word out and is such a power move. Remember, it's your launch party. πŸ₯‚
