One Weaning Poem. Three English Editions.

“Language is the road map of a culture.” — Rita Mae Brown

Hand-drawn style illustration of a globe with three flags — Canada, United States, and United Kingdom — symbolizing the three English editions of the children’s book Bye-Bye, Boobies from Little Goodbyes Press.

From the very beginning, Bye-Bye, Boobies was always going to have three unique English editions Canadian, U.S., and UK.

In my work as an IBCLC, I support mums in many different countries. I naturally adjust my care, language, and resources so they fit each family’s everyday life. That might mean using familiar words, matching spelling to their region, or shifting phrasing so it feels natural in their home.

Doing the same for my books just made sense.

The Canadian edition keeps my original wording and spelling. The U.S. edition changes to American spelling and makes small adjustments for an American ear. The UK edition uses British spelling and everyday expressions that parents there would recognize. Of course, I made sure that none of these changes alter the heart of the book but they make reading aloud feel smooth and familiar for the person holding it.

It’s still the same gentle goodbye, the same illustrations, the same weaning poem simply shaped so it feels like it was written with you in mind, wherever you are.

Publishing three editions takes a bit of extra work, some more people to help review the adaptations, but to me it’s worth every bit of effort.

A special thank you to Lauren Hoste for carefully adapting the U.S. edition into American English making sure the words feel natural and familiar for parents reading it aloud and to my family across the pond for reviewing the UK version.
One weaning poem. Three English editions. Hardcovers are on their way soon.
